As part of the European project supporting the fight against human trafficking in the Gulf of Guinea, Expertise France is collaborating with civil authorities from six countries in the region.<\/p>\n

What is your approach to human trafficking?<\/h2>\n\n

In the Gulf of Guinea, human trafficking is circular and crosses borders. The trafficking pattern in the region is characterized by its cross-border and circular nature: countries serve as both countries of origin, transit, and destination for victims. Our approach is based on the \u201c4 Ps\u201d: prevention, victim protection, prosecution of traffickers, and partnerships, at both the local and global levels.<\/p>\n\n

What does Expertise France contribute to this project?<\/h2>\n\n

The productive partnership between the ministry and Expertise France has led to specific actions: renovation of the headquarters of the Executive Secretariat of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, reinforcement of the technical secretariat\u2019s capacities, and the acquisition of equipment needed to launch a new database. Expertise France has also supported us in structural initiatives, such as the establishment of seven regional anti-trafficking units, the development of a national referral mechanism and procedures for victim care, and capacity-building for stakeholders in the criminal justice system on this issue. Another benefit was the strengthening of cooperation among project beneficiaries through workshops designed to facilitate the exchange and sharing of experiences.<\/p>\n\n

What challenges must be overcome to fight more effectively against human trafficking in the coming years?<\/h2>\n\n

Nous devons continuer \u00e0 renforcer le cadre juridique, finaliser et d\u00e9ployer la base de donn\u00e9es, et amplifier les campagnes de sensibilisation en y associant les survivants. We must keep strengthening the legal framework, finalize and launch the database, and expand awareness-raising campaigns by including survivors. To eradicate the trafficking pattern in the Gulf of Guinea, we need a holistic approach based on improved cooperation between countries and stakeholders. Our work on the ground will soon be strengthened by the creation of new regional units, a victim services center, and a dedicated hotline.<\/p>\n\n
